Learning Objectives

These intermediate level courses will explore investment and governance issues relevant to long-term investors. Commonfund Forum is designed to provoke discussion and debate on investment trends and governance issues that will help you make informed decisions for your institution. This conference requires a basic knowledge of financial and investment terms, along with a background in finance and/or nonprofit endowment management.

Upon completion of these courses participants will be able to: differentiate and understand the primary asset classes and strategies that include marketable alternatives, emerging markets, ESG, and private capital investments; assess the benefits, limitations and opportunities of these asset classes and their impact on the portfolios they manage for their institutions; understand the importance of hedge funds and be able to evaluate their risks; have a firm understanding of the science of board dynamics and how the structure & composition of your board can determine its effectiveness; assess the top risks in their portfolios, determine what matters and how they can mitigate it; have a firm understanding of the OCIO model and how to assess its performance and fees; analyze the opportunities and risks that can come from investing in regions outside the US such as Latin American, China, Europe and emerging market economies; and they will have a thorough understanding of the global economy, central banks and the fed and how the changes made here can directly affect their portfolios.
